The Ritterman Building is Middlesex University’s newest state-of-the-art teaching facility at the heart of its Hendon campus. The five-storey building boosts a number of innovations, including over 3,300 square meters of additional teaching space for the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, whom the building is home to.
Internally the building has generous break out spaces and workshops to create opportunities for informal discussions, whilst highly specialist studios and labs reflect the future working environments of students. In order to capture the best quality of light for sketching, the Interior Architecture studios are expansive and north facing, and situated next to the Science and Technology labs allowing staff and students an opportunity to collaborate and share ideas. The dance theatre features a changing space to serve as an interactive performance venue and a social teaching space while Science and Technology’s virtual reality and robotics labs contain cutting edge technology.
The Ritterman Building is already providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their future careers whilst strengthening cultures of learning between science, technology and the arts. The £18m building was developed over three years in partnership and has achieved a BREEAM rating of excellence with a number of green technologies designed within the building.
Environmental sustainability is at the heart of the Ritterman building as part of our commitment in reducing our environmental impact and ensuring we use our precious resources wisely and efficiently. Sustainable features include solar panels, a bio-diverse green living roof and four living walls that cover 110 square meters. The living wall is the biggest in Barnet and has over 3,500 evergreen plants designed to flower at different times of the year to create interest and encourage wildlife.
