Research Associate Dr Bianca Stumbitz is an expert in equality issues in the labour market across the world. Through her research she has championed maternity and paternity rights for employees by evidencing the link between improved working conditions and increased productivity. In 2015, she concluded a study on maternity protection and workers with family responsibilities in Ghana, which examined the feasibility of innovative maternity supports at low or no cost. As part of the study, the research team also advised the Maternity Protection Steering Committee at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations on its strategy. In collaboration with the Universiti Sains Malaysia, Bianca and her colleagues have also been successful in securing grants from the British Council and the British Academy to develop local capacity with respect to maternity protection research, practice and policy in Malaysia.
