    Employability Week Success

    27/06/2016
MDX hosts the first ever Employability Week

MDX successfully delivered its first Employability Week on 23-27 May- offering student and graduates unique opportunities to work with hugely successful companies such as FDM Group and Goldman Sachs and gain valuable employment skills.

As exams wound down and students began to look forward to summer holidays, many took advantage of the opportunities to develop skills and learn from a range of top employers on campus during Employability Week events 23-27 May.

Kicking off with O2 (Telefonica UK) on Monday, students learned about the renowned Go Think Big campaign- a programme that offers funding, support or training to young people using technology to help improve their community. After putting their heads together in teams to brainstorm, teams presented their creative ‘ideas’ to a panel of experts. Further coaching and feedback followed. Zain Qureshi, Junior IT Engagement Officer for O2 (Telefonica UK) said afterward, “We’ve had a lot of discussions going around about the Think Big session held at Middlesex and how it turned out to be a huge success”.

On Tuesday, FDM Group came to campus to reveal top tips for successfully  navigating the assessment centre- including what to expect, how to prepare and how to excel on the day. Led by a Senior Recruitment Consultant, the workshop gave valuable insight on what skills employers are looking for and how to demonstrate these effectively.

Goldman Sachs arrived on Wednesday with a team of 18 advisers from all sectors of the business- ready to help eager students with tailored CV advice, guidance on how to get ahead in finance/business/technical sectors, and tips for interviewing. The buzz of 25 simultaneous interviews going on at the same time in the same room was impressive and one GS rep remarked, “The students were keen to learn were really aware of the benefits of the day”

On Thursday, Flexible Films provided MDX students with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their skills by producing their very own Audio Visual CV in front of the camera- encouraging confidence in pitching skills.

Feedback from students who took part in events for Employability Week was overwhelmingly positive. Lookman Jinadu, a BSc Computer Science student, remarked, “I would like to express my thanks and give a positive review of the ‘Employability Week’ that the Employability Service organised. On the whole it has exceeded my initial expectations. I believe the employability skills and knowledge gained will be equally important to those acquired from study”
