National Student Survey

The National Student Survey

The National Student Survey (NSS) is for undergraduate students in their third year of study, to give feedback about the university and their course. Conducted by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the survey runs from January – end of April each year, and takes just minutes to complete and gives you the opportunity to rate your experience at Middlesex. See our slide presentation for more details on filling the survey.

Managed independently by Ipsos Mori, the survey is completely anonymous, and the results will highlight what we’re doing right at Middlesex, as well as identifying the key areas where you think we could improve. The results of the 2011 survey showed a marked increase in student satisfaction (79% students expressed their overall satisfaction with Middlesex) – and we’re hoping to build on that success this year.

Here are just a few of the improvements we’ve made since the results of the last survey:

  • Rolled out electronic submission and feedback on assessed work to all those in the first year of their course
  • Started programme progress reviews for first years
  • Launched the new student portal MyUnihub to operate through a single sign-on as requested by you – this means you have all the information you need as a Middlesex student in one place, it is personalised and you only need one password
  • Begun rolling out wifi to ensure all student-facing areas at Hendon are covered by 2012
  • A £1.5 million investment in the library, giving a boost to the Learning Resource provision

You can see more examples of how we’re improving your student experience in the February 2012 edition of YSWD.
