LEARNER DEVELOPMENT UNIT

The LDU (Learner Development Unit) is a team of specialists in academic writing and English language development, Numeracy and Dyslexia Support. We are here to help you make the most of your studies at Middlesex. Often we will be in your School working alongside your subject lecturers to help you understand what’s expected of you on your programme. We are likely to work with you in this way on the writing process, preparing for presentations, making the most of feedback, etc. If necessary, we can provide you with an individual programme of support, which could involve intensive courses, self-study materials and close monitoring of your progress.

Learner Development Profile (LDP)

Now that you have been offered and have accepted a place to study at Middlesex, we are committed to supporting you to achieve the best possible grades in your studies.  Key to your success will be your ability to express yourself using academic English – which is very different to the English we use on a day-to-day basis.  In order to discover the best way to help you as an individual to develop your academic writing skills, we ask all new students to complete an online exercise during Induction Week.  The exercise profiles your abilities in a number of language-related areas and provides you, and us, with insight into your development needs.

Once you have completed the online exercise you will receive your profile which will identify support that Middlesex can provide you with to assist your academic development. We strongly advise you take up any support that is suggested in order to achieve to the best of your ability.
