Microsoft 365 for personal devices

Middlesex University offers all their students Microsoft 365 for use on personal devices at no cost to yourself for the duration of your course.

What is offered?

You can install the software on up to 5 personal devices (PC, Mac, smartphone and tablet).

An important ‘need to know’ – when you leave Middlesex University, your student email account will be deactivated approximately one year after you complete your studies and graduate from the University.

What software is included in Microsoft 365?

Windows

Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Access, OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams

Please Note that only the following 2 operating systems are supported by Microsoft 365 – Windows 10 and Windows 11

Mac

Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams

Important - Microsoft 365 is only supported on Big sur, Catalina and Monterey operating systems.

Microsoft 365 Installation comes with 1TB amount of cloud storage space for your documents.

How to download and install Microsoft 365

For windows laptops and MacBook’s

- firstly, you will need your:

  • University email address e.g. AB123@live.mdx.ac.uk
  • University Password

Secondly, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Microsoft 365 portal https://products.office.com/en-gb/student/office-in-education
  2. Enter your university email address under “Enter your school email address” and select “Get Started
  3. Select ‘I’m a student’, this will direct you to another page
  4. Select Sign in
  5. Enter your Middlesex University email address and password
  6. On the Microsoft 365 welcome page select ‘Install Office’ located on the top right corner and then select “Microsoft 365 apps
  7. This will start the installation of the application.
  8. Follow the steps in the installation wizard.
  9. Once Microsoft 365 has installed, you’ll need to sign-in using your University email address and password to accept the licensing of the program.

For Android and iOS devices

You will need to download each Microsoft 365 app (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, OneDrive & Outlook) separately from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android), and then sign-in to the app with your university email address and password.

If you’re unable to activate any Microsoft 365 app after signing in, please close down the app and sign into the app again.

Once you have signed in, you will now be able to use Microsoft 365 applications on your Android & iOS devices.

Important: When creating a file using Microsoft 365, the file will be saved onto your personal hard drive. We recommend you upload and save your work files to your UniversityOneDrive storage or your personal cloud storage. This will allow you to access the files online from any other device you use.
