    Distance Learning Library Support

We provide library materials, support and advice to UK registered students and staff* who are unable to visit a Middlesex University campus on a regular basis or not at all. Our service includes:

    • Postal delivery of books from within the Middlesex University Collection
    • Electronic delivery of photocopies of journal articles and chapters of books as allowed within British copyright law.
    • General help with the search for materials and use of library systems.

*Students and staff registered in Dubai, Mauritius or Malta should enquire locally.

    • A Quick Guide to the Service

      • Is this service for you?

You are entitled to register as a distance learner if:

        • You are on a designated distance learning or work based learning course.
        • You are on a taught postgraduate course between the end of teaching and final submission of your dissertation.
        • You are a PhD student writing up your thesis.
        • You are a DProf or MProf candidate.
        • You have arranged with your tutor to study at home.

In all cases you should be fully enrolled with the University.

If you wish to use the service and don’t see your circumstances described above but feel that they might entitle you to register, please contact us .

Please note: if you are ever able to visit a Middlesex University campus, you may use the services available to all students (you will need your Middlesex University ID card with you to gain access to the Library. If you do not have a Middlesex student ID card please contact us so that we can arrange one for you). For the full range of services, visit the Library & IT Support home page.

      • Registration

To register for the service, please email the Distance Learning Library Support team at: lrdlsu@mdx.ac.uk

      • Searching for materials

For links to our resources and guidance on which might be the most relevant for your study/research, please see our Journals & E-Resources page.

      • Requesting Materials

To request the postal loan of a book held at Middlesex, please follow the Postal Loan instructions.
NB If you don’t want a postal loan, select Hendon from the drop down menu.

To request a scan of a journal article or book chapter from Middlesex stock, please email the team at lrdlsu@mdx.ac.uk

To request a journal article or book chapter not held at Middlesex, please use the Inter-Library Loans service.

      • Your library account

Books are issued to your library record on the day they are put in the post and we also add 10 working days to the loan period to allow for delivery and return via the postal system. It is worth checking your library record regularly to make sure that you have received the items on your record and that they have been taken off your record after you might reasonably have expected them to have arrived back at the library.

To look at your library account:

        • Go to the Library Catalogue and click on My Account
        • Your Borrower ID is your Middlesex ID number eg. M00012345
        • Your PIN is your date of birth in the format (ddmmyy)
        • Click on login

From here you may see the personal details which we hold about you along with the details of the items which you have on loan and any charges you may have incurred.
        To renew books on loan:

For information about how to renew books online, please see our Renewing Guide

You may renew a book that you have on loan up to 20 times provided it is not requested by another borrower.
