Lost ID cards should be reported immediately to the Security Office in the Quad, College Building.
To purchase a new replacement card:
You must have your Middlesex Student ID card with you to access the Sheppard Library and to take out books and other loan items.
If you forget your ID, two free day passes are allowed per Academic year.
Third day passes cost £10 and this charge is added to your library account. No fourth day passes can be given. Please note that Day Passes are also required for weekends.
Children are only allowed into Sheppard Library with a responsible adult and should be closely supervised at all times whilst on University premises.
If you are a parent or carer and need to bring your child with you, you will need to sign in at library reception where you will be given a purple lanyard for your child to wear. Library staff will then know that the child is authorised to be in the library and is accompanied by a parent or carer.
By using Sheppard Library you agree to abide by the Student Conduct and Discipline Rules.
In addition, all users of the Library must observe the rules set out in the Library and IT Policy.
Study spaces are available on all floors, but please be aware that the second and third floors of the library are for silent, individual study only.

Online Classes
Headphones are required when attending online classes in the library study spaces.
Please note that the 2nd and 3rd-floor silent study area cannot be used for online classes.
Our Library Experience team members are excited to guide you through the various study spaces and services provided at the Sheppard Library.
During the tour:
Tours will be available after the Winter break from the week commencing 8th January.
Tours are available from Monday to Friday, with starting times at 11:00 and 15:00. The tour will last 30 minutes and each tour is limited to 15 students only. So, make sure to secure your spot by booking in advance!

If you wish to access a book held by the library please follow the Postal Loan instructions, please note wherever possible, we will provide you with access to an electronic copy of your requested title.

To request a journal article or book chapter not held at Middlesex, please use the Inter-Library Loans service.
Books are issued to your library record on the day they are put in the post and we also add 10 working days to the loan period to allow for delivery and return via the postal system. It is worth checking your library record regularly to make sure that you have received the items on your record and that they have been taken off your record after you might reasonably have expected them to have arrived back at the library.

Middlesex University participates in the Sconul Access Scheme. As a student at Middlesex University you can use other Higher Education Institution libraries participating in the scheme. See below for some useful information about SCONUL access and visiting other HE and public libraries.
SCONUL Access – You may need to use other libraries if your research is very specialised. Academic staff and all students except full time undergraduates can have borrowing rights at virtually every other academic library in the UK through SCONUL Access. Always check the webpages of the library you intend to visit to ensure they will be open.
Library Hub Discover - This finds rare and unique research material by bringing together the catalogues of major UK and Irish libraries. In a single search you can discover the resources at University Libraries, specialist research libraries and the UK’s National Libraries (including the British Library. You can search just libraries in London to find resources near you.
British Library - The British Library's collection of over 150 million items covers every age and place of written civilisation, from unique historical documents to the latest information sources for business, industry and research. Local Libraries – Hendon Public Library is minutes away from our campus and has a fully searchable catalogue including some interesting e-resources.
