“I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into, I felt a bit lost but at the same time I was super excited. I didn't have that much time to think about it; suddenly I was sitting on a plane towards Beijing regardless of what would happen next.
It has been tremendously unique. An incredible experience. Beijing has been a place where I have truly felt disconnected, a whole new world now discovered. It has been terribly difficult at times, for I did not share the same culture, customs, climate or even ideas. Yet it has been so rich and gratifying, a great opportunity where I feel I have found myself. I fully recommend this experience, good luck to all of you!”

“From the moment I arrived in Valencia to when I left, everyone was kind and helpful in helping me adjust to the cultural differences and showing patience with my poor Spanish skills.
My Spanish and Italian flatmates were like guides to the Spanish culture of long summer days and showing me the best places to eat and drink around the city. It was of course, incredibly hot for most of our stay, the hottest summer some locals had experienced in a long time.
This wasn't too much of a problem, because we had the Mediterranean right at our door step. As for our placement, I was working with FISH to identify and quantify microbes. I have learnt a lot about this technique and the potential applications of it. UPV has an amazing campus with incredible facilities and staff which I could write thousands of words on!
This was an amazing experience and I would just like say thank you again to everyone involved to make it happen.”

“I am a PhD student conducting research into the benefits of digital storytelling with older people….The work placement focuses on my research and has provided an amazing opportunity to actually do some
field work in Portugal….
My first week in Portugal coincided with IPL’s Erasmus+ International Week, and I was asked to deliver a keynote speech about the benefits of international partnership working.
Although language skills were not the primary motivator for the Erasmus+ placement, learning Portuguese is very important to me. I’m hoping to do more work here in the future, when I complete my PhD.”

“As I have always liked travelling I decided to apply for an Erasmus+ Traineeship at Middlesex University. I think it is a great opportunity for Middlesex students to get support from their university, as this is
a big step in their lives.
The contact persons were always very friendly and helpful; I would strongly recommend every student to get in contact with them for a traineeship in another country. And yes, it is easier than you think.
I did the exchange because I felt that it was important to me and my future career; to have experiences outside university life. I am currently undertaking a work placement with Lufthansa, the largest airline in Europe; which has taught me that I made the right decision to go abroad.
Having people around me who also like travelling is a great way of sharing experiences and broadening horizons.”
