  • Frequently Asked Questions on using Global Pay by Convera

    • How does it work?

We have developed this service with Convera to enable International students to pay their fees by bank transfer.

The benefits of the Convera service is that it will enable you to see the exact cost of your payment in your local currency, and the quote given will be honoured for a period of 72 hours.

In addition, this method of payment is easier and cheaper than ordering a bankers draft from your bank. The payment will also reach Middlesex University more quickly. Middlesex University no longer accepts bankers drafts as a method of payment.

      • Choose your home country and enter the amount(s) of tuition and/or Accommodation fees in the relevant field in £ Sterling. The service is also available to make payment of a Postgraduate or Undergraduate Tuition Fee
      • Click continue
      • Choose the required payment method. This will automatically convert your tuition fee amount to your home currency (if your home currency is unavailable) it will default to the next best option e.g. USD. You also have the option to amend the currency you wish to transfer your payment in, then click continue.
      • Enter your Student ID and payer information if this has not already been populated for you. Boxes marked with a * are mandatory, then click next
      • Accept the conditions of use
      • If you pay via Bank transfer you will be quoted an amount to pay instantly. This amount will be guaranteed for 72 hours
      • Next, you will be emailed simple instructions in PDF format detailing which bank account your fees need to be transferred to from your home country. You can either make this payment using online banking, telephone banking or in person at your bank in the same way that you would make any Bank transfer
      • The PDF instructions provided can also be emailed directly to a family member if they are making the payment on your behalf
      • The transfer must be sent in the currency stated on your quote
      • These instructions will contain an important reference that you must ensure your bank quotes when making the payment. This reference allows Middlesex University to identify and allocate your fees
      • If you pay via online payment options, depending on the country you are paying from, you will have the choice to pay via online payment e-wallets such as Alipay, Tenpay, WeChat, POLI, Ideas etc
      • Once you have accepted the conditions of use, you will be directed to specific payment options.

      Make your payment today

    • I cannot find my local currency on the list, what should I do?

We would advise that you contact Convera Student Support by calling 01733 871 871.

    • Why is using the Convera Global Pay for students service better than a direct bank to bank transfer?

If you use your bank to make the payment directly to Middlesex University, your bank is likely to send an International payment without you knowing what the rate of exchange is. This may not only cost you more, but is also likely to result in unforeseen additional bank charges.

By using Global Pay for students, you are assured of a guaranteed rate of exchange you can access before you make your payment. This will be fixed for 72 hours. You can also be sure that Middlesex University will receive your tuition fees in full.

    • Will I need the bank details for Middlesex University to carry out the Bank transfer?

No, if you select to pay via card, e-wallet (such as Alipay, WeChatPay) or through your online banking, then you will not need to provide any bank details.

If you select to pay by bank transfer then you only need the local bank details that will be provided to you on the PDF quote through the Convera service.

Convera hold the Bank details for Middlesex University and payments will be allocated accordingly using individual student ID numbers.

    • Can I change the currency I use once I have printed a Convera quote?

It is imperative that you send your fee amount to the Convera bank account details that are provided to you, in the currency stated on the payment instructions.

Make sure that your bank quotes the reference number you have been given in the PDF. This ensures your tuition fee is easily identifiable by Middlesex University and that the application of the payment to your student account does not incur any delay.

    • Which fees can I pay using this service?

This service can be used by any category of student e.g. International or EU/UK.

You can pay for Tuition, Accommodation or Pre-sessional using this service.

    • How can I pay if my country does not appear on the Convera payment platform?

At Middlesex University, we strive to provide flexible payment options for all our students. However, we understand that external factors such as international sanctions may sometimes pose challenges to certain students who wish to pay via Convera. Therefore, we remind affected students that they can still pay their tuition fees using a debit or credit card via our convenient and secure applicant portal or automated telephone payment service line: +44(0) 208 411 6400.

Struggling to pay your fees?

If your financial circumstances change and you are unable to meet your payment deadline, please contact our Student Welfare Advice Team at the earliest opportunity. They can give support and advice on, for example, sources of funding available.

You can contact the team by booking an appointment or raising a query through the UniHelp team.

We will assist where we can, however the quality of teaching is dependent upon funding and this is why the University must act to recover all outstanding debts.

Please note that documentary evidence to support your request will be required before it can be considered. Please have this information to hand when contacting us.

Unpaid fees

If you fail to pay your tuition fees or provide confirmation of sponsorship, you will be deregistered (e.g. you will be withdrawn from the university) at the end of learning week four and the option to pay via an instalment plan will no longer be available.

Failing to pay the second or any subsequent payment instalments by your due date, will also result in deregistration.

If you have been deregistered, you must pay the annual tuition fee in full plus a late payment charge of £200 in order to be re-instated. You will also not be permitted to re-enrol until your tuition fees have been paid.

If you are withdrawn from your course due to non-payment of fees, the University is obliged to inform the UKVI to action Withdrawal of Tier 4 sponsorship.

Restrictions will be applied to your account automatically if you have any non-tuition fee debts.

Regional Award

The Regional Award, allocated by our regional offices, grants you a tuition fee discount that is deducted from your second instalment payment.

They are awarded on a case-by-case basis at the point of offer and if you're eligible, you will be informed in your offer letter.

If you are in receipt of a Regional Award, once you have enrolled, and paid a minimum of 50% of your tuition fee, we endeavour to process all Regional Awards by the end of learning week 3. If it has not been applied by then, please contact our team.

Instalment plans

An instalment plan gives you the opportunity to spread the cost of your tuition fees in instalments instead of paying your fees in full by the payment deadline.
