Coffee spots

Sometimes you aren't in the mood for food. You just want a nice cup of tea or an energising espresso. Well, we've got you covered! Discover the best places across campus that do great hot drinks.

We are proud to have our very own Costa Coffee on campus in the Quad.

Fairtrade outlet

We were recently awarded Fairtrade status and you can find a dedicated Fairtrade outlet in the Grove serving tea, coffee and hot chocolate that has been ethically and sustainably sourced.

Global Food Van

On your way to lectures? Grab a quick tea or coffee from the handy Global Food Van that's parked in the Scholar's Courtyard.

The Rickett Quadrangle or Quad is a light, bright space where you'll want to spend time.

Opening times

Monday to Friday: 7.30am to 7.00pm (term time) 
Saturday: 8.30am to 4.00pm (term time) 
Monday to Friday: 8.00am to 5.00pm (out of term)

Food options and meal deals

The Quad provides gluten free, halal, vegan and vegetarian options.

It's the largest coffee zone on campus offering a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, baguettes, toasties and paninis as well as hot food pots, jacket potatoes, pastries and pasties. The Quad is also home to our very own Costa Coffee so you can get your favourite drinks right in the heart of the campus.

Our prices start at £1.10 for hot food and  £2.10 for sandwiches - add a snack or fruit with a drink for £3.99.

The Ritterman is a small, cosy, warm and welcoming space for students and staff. Take a moment to sit and enjoy watching the world go by, or grab a bite to eat on the go.

The Ritterman provides halal, vegan and vegetarian options.

It's also home to our very own Starbucks meaning you can get your favourite coffee, frappé or snack right on campus. Grab a meal deal with a sandwich, drink, snack or fruit for just £3.99.

The Ritterman Café (Starbucks) is set to become a Change Please. For those who are not familiar with this brand, Change Please is a social enterprise which prides itself on providing great quality coffee as well as giving people a second chance.

Since being established in 2015 Change Please has seen continuous growth and has provided work opportunities to those in most need. It currently operates over 200 outlets across the country and over 85% of their trainees have found onward employment opportunities.

With over 100% of their profits contributing towards combating homelessness we see Change Please as a great brand which both the university and wider community will love.

The Grove

In the heart of the Art and Design Faculty, the Fairtrade outlet in The Grove hosts a light and relaxing atmosphere. Grab and Go with a great selection of food and snacks, sit and relax, or catch up with friends in the spacious area.

The Grove provides gluten free, halal, vegan and vegetarian options.

Find grab and go sandwiches and cold drinks either as a meal deal or on their own. We also serve Fairtrade tea, coffee and snacks as well as freshly made cakes, jacket potatoes, pasties, paninis and toasties.

Our prices start at £2.10 for sandwiches and £1.10 for hot food.

Middlesex University has been awarded Fairtrade Status and this outlet compliments the Fairtrade offers available with a large range of chocolate, tea, coffee and juices; all Fairtrade certified.

The Burroughs Yard café, on the ground floor of the Sheppard Library, promotes a healthy eating selection to eat in or take away. Boasting its salad bar and fruit station you can also find lunchtime favourites from paninis to wraps and baguettes as well as a 24-hour vending machine that also serves hot water.

Burroughs Yard serves Peak Street coffee, which is a Fairtrade Sicilia blend of Arabica/Robusta coffee.

Our Hot Wheels food trailer is a vibrant pop-up in the Scholar's Courtyard, serving delicious hot sandwiches served on fresh, locally supplied bread. There is also a choice of sweet baked goods to choose from including cupcakes, brownies and fresh churros!

Our prices start at £1.95 for baked goods, £3.95 for hot sandwiches and from £2.50 for the special deal of the week.

My Costcutter

H | Ve | V options

My Costcutter is a great pit stop between lectures where you can get food, snacks, drinks, newspapers, stationery and cards. It also has Amazon Lockers and a free to use cash machine.

Browse the aisles and choose from a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, oriental and international food as well as fruit and salad pots, halal hot dogs and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

As a student, you can get 10% off selected purchases when you show your Middlesex ID card.

MDX House is our main eating hub where you can find high street brands like Subway along with our own outlets and the MDX Bar (Monday to Friday 11.00am to 11.00pm).

Subway offers high street choices with high street prices. Whether you need to grab a breakfast sub on the way to lectures, a healthy salad for lunch or you want something to eat after a long day of study, your Subway at Middlesex has you covered.

Subway provides vegetarian options.

Get a sub from £2.59 and make it a meal deal with either hash browns or crisps and a cookie for £3.59.

Greggs

Greggs

Since being established in 1939 Greggs, has become one of the high street’s most popular and loved food brands. Unlike other food brands Greggs possesses a wide appeal when it comes to its target audience as its proven be a favourite for both the young and old.

Similar to many high street branches, Greggs at MDX House it will be selling classics such as sausage rolls, sandwiches, vegan food, bakes and subs. Also, as Greggs sells Fairtrade products, we feel this will fit right in with Middlesex University’s vision and values.

Tortilla

Tortilla

Another new addition to MDX House at Middlesex will be the opening of Tortilla. Since launching in the early 2000s Tortilla has gained popularity among young adult and millennials.

Once it opens Tortilla will be offering their most popular main meals and sides. Students and staff can also take advantage of our group deals and discounts when using our click and collect service. Vegetarian and vegan options will be also available to purchase.

Tortilla opens 20th September Monday – Friday 9am till 5pm

Dark Kitchen

September will also see the launch of our new Dark Kitchen service. The Dark Kitchen is our new and innovative way of getting food to our customer quicker and hassle free.  Once a student has sign up to our Uni Food Hub App, they will be able to order their food whether on or off campus and receive it within a specified time that suits them.

Following on from the success of Just Eat and Deliveroo, we felt this idea could be adapted to our university services so, we could meet the demands and eating habits of our customers.

Dark Kitchen will open on 20th September and service will available been 9am – 6pm Monday – Friday.
