    Safety on campus

The University has various Health and Safety policies that you should have been made aware of when you were first inducted into the University. But, in case you've forgotten them or need to refer to them again, read on.

    • Safety on Campus

      • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans

If you have difficulty getting in and out of buildings during an emergency such as a fire (for example due to a disability or medical condition) and you feel you need some assistance, please let your course tutor know or one of the following members of staff:

        • School of Health and Social Science students contact Graham Shennan (Health and Safety Officer)
        • Engineering and Information School students contact Barry French (Safety Advisor)
        • School of Arts and Education students contact (Tony Leon)
        • Business School students contact (Alison Scales)

They will advise you how you can get help and assistance to evacuate University buildings or you can fill in the form attached to the link below and email it to them.

      • Accident and hazard reporting

It's essential all students report accidents resulting in injury and any near misses or unsafe situations that could cause an injury, ill health or damage. If we work together, we can keep our campuses a safe environment for everyone. Reports should be made to the member of staff responsible for your area of activity – this applies to any that occur off campus – or to reception/a Campus Facilities Office if made in common areas.

        - Accident form

        - Near miss form

      • First aid

First aid information is displayed throughout the University in conspicuous places – seek first aid in the event of illness or injury.

How to get first aid at Hendon Campus

In Hendon a duty first aid rota is in operation covering most of the campus. Display notices in all buildings publicise the main security office phone number (020 8411 6200) where all first aid requests are taken and passed on to a duty first aider. Out of hours first aid (i.e. outside 9am to 5pm) is covered by security officers and caretakers who are trained as emergency first aiders.

      • Safety concerns

If you're worried about any activities of the University causing a concern to your own or another's healthy, safety or welfare or have an suggestions for improvement, please report these concerns to the relevant member of staff or your Campus Student Office.

Any crime or incident occurring on the University premises should be immediately reported to the nearest University Security Lodge or Main Campus Reception where advice can be given.

      • Smoking policy

        - When smoking keep clear of building entrances and windows.

        - Dispose of cigarette butts in the cigarette bins provided.

        - Please smoke in the designated areas as shown in the campus location maps.

        - E-cigarettes are also banned from buildings and near entrances.

      • Safety online

Beyond just our Campus, it's also important that you consider your cyber safety as a student. We recommend that all students check out Stay Safe Online, which offers free expert advice including how to avoid rogue apps.
