We recognise that these are uncertain times and the job market is still evolving from recent events which have affected us all. Many roles have been placed on hold or may no longer be required.
However, there are still companies that are recruiting! We will provide up-to-date opportunities via the jobs board on MDXworks.com, with further advice and guidance around finding placements, work experience and part-time jobs.
For help with networking and graduate job search, we have relevant guides for this too.
The number one priority in all of this is your health and the people around you. You should only apply for roles if you feel comfortable doing this. Also make sure you check the official UK Government advice.
In short, yes!
Whilst recruitment for placements, internships and graduate roles is down, employers are still hiring – with many recruiting for remote positions. For example, Times Top 100 Graduate Employers including Aldi, Barclays, Civil Service and Teach First are continuing to recruit for schemes as usual, or are even increasing their intake.
Prospects have created a page specifically around the impact of COVID-19 on students and graduates searching for work experience and jobs. All current vacancies, including graduate roles, placements and remote work can be found via the jobs board on MDXworks.com.
Working from home has been the mainstay of the ‘new normal’ and it’s not always easy to know how to make the best use of your time in unfamiliar and often more comfortable surroundings.
Maintaining a routine is essential – both when it comes to finding remote work and undertaking it.
LinkedIn have written an article around remote working practices and how to use LinkedIn to find remote roles.
First and foremost, get in touch with MDXworks. We’re here to help you with your search and applications for any roles, including part-time work. We have a live jobs board, guides to help you find opportunities, and a number of websites to explore for local businesses.
You can also sign up to Unitemps for part-time roles within the university itself, many of which are online.
In light of changing COVID-19 health and safety advice regarding placements, please email our MDXworks team well in advance of accepting any position, so that we can review the suitability of your placement.
You MUST NOT start a placement without approval of both MDXworks and your module leader.
If you have concerns on placement, please get in touch with us ASAP.
Yes! Temporary, part-time positions through Unitemps and full-time opportunities via the main MDX vacancies page.
If you are an international student on a Student route (formerly tier 4) visa, you can apply for work in the UK whilst studying – as long as this is part-time and up to 20 hours a week.
Full-time work can be undertaken out of term-time (all elements of your programme must be completed, including a dissertation) or as part of an approved placement.
Please seek advice on this from the International Student Advice Team and MDXworks.

Our aim is to support you in preparing for a world of exciting opportunities when you graduate. To ensure that you can confidently step into the next chapter of your career journey - able to fully articulate and evidence your true value and worth to future employers.
We offer tailored support, advice and guidance - working with students to identify your aspirations; your strengths and potential, your lived experiences, talents and passions. We do this via a menu of co-curricular and work-related activities that develop and nurture the new skills for your future.
We can help you with all kinds of things without you needing to make an appointment. For example, you can email or call us to get feedback on your application documents, including CVs, cover letters, application forms or similar. We can provide suggestions to help you make improvements and stand out from other applicants.
We recommend booking an appointment if you'd like to discuss your search for a work experience placement, internship, or graduate job. We can discuss your career options and give you suggestions on where to look for opportunities in your industry. We can also support with preparing for interviews or assessment centres, including arranging mock interviews to help you practice.
During your time at Middlesex and even after graduation, you're entitled to:
An extracurricular activity can be almost anything you do at university, that isn’t required for degree credits. These activities are increasingly important if you’re looking to stand out in the graduate recruitment landscape and will help you to develop your talents, interests and passions.
Examples of activities can be found via Prospects.
MDXworks offer an abundance of programmes for you to get involved in.
As an MDX student you have access to LinkedIn Learning, providing over 16,000 courses to complete in your spare time. MDXSU is also a great place to get involved!
Virtual work experience is a hot topic right now thanks to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also referred to as online, remote or e-experience, virtual work experience gives students and graduates the opportunity to complete a full internship from home, in most cases using nothing but a laptop.
Online work experience is open to all and for the majority of opportunities all you need to get involved is access to a computer and a stable internet connection.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a real knock on effect on the number of paid placements, internships and opportunities available, so volunteering has become even more important, particularly during these times of need.
MDXworks have a number of partnerships to get you involved with volunteering, including in the local borough of Barnet.
For more volunteering opportunities in both the UK and abroad, check out Prospects.
