Internship (work placement) abroad

How it works

Grant-supported work placements are a fantastic opportunity for you to test your career ambitions and motivation.

You will immerse yourself in another culture, improve your language/cultural skills, make new friends and gain work experience.

With an internship abroad, you will boost your confidence, enhance your CV and develop graduate level skills and global employability competencies for which employers are looking.

When to go, and how long for?

You have the option to do an internship abroad:

  • During each summer break
  • Immediately after graduation
  • During term time (only if your MDX programme allows it or as a PhD student)

How to apply

If you are interested in doing an internship abroad, here are the steps to take:

  1. Check available funding (varies each academic year).
  2. Research companies and institutions abroad (in the countries specified above) that you are interested in working for and that match with your MDX studies.
  3. Create a provisional list of companies/institutions (private/public) within your field that you would like to work for as an intern.
  4. Speak to your programme leader and module leaders to ask for their advice.
  5. Book an appointment with MDXworks to check your CV, cover letter, portfolio etc.
  6. Check internship providers’ websites to see what other opportunities are available.
  7. Contact the companies and wait until one accepts you as an intern.
  8. Once you have your programme leader’sapproval (in an email format), please submit the form to apply for available funding (varies each academic year).
  9. Our team will then contact you if we need any more information from you.
  10. If you have further questions, please register for our online informative sessions with the International Mobility team or book an appointment.
