A seminar open to all Doctoral Candidates and Staff interested in Practitioner Research and Action Research
The seminar will be presented by the Professional Doctorate programme in Health & Education, Science & Technology, and Transdisciplinary Practice.
Featuring Professor Jack Whitehead as a guest speaker, it will focus on the generation of original contributions to knowledge from the unique enquiries of practitioner researchers who are asking, researching and answering questions of the kind, ‘How do I improve what I am doing in my professional practice?’
Jack Whitehead is a Visiting Professor at the University of Cumbria. He is a former President of the British Educational Research Association, Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Westminster College, Utah and a Visiting Professor at Ningxia University in China.
He is also a member of the editorial board of the Educational Journal of Living Theories.
Since 1973 his research programme has focused on the creation of the living educational theories that individual's use to improve their practice and explain their educational influences in their workplaces.
The explanations of educational influences in learning in doctoral theses, accessible from here, will be used to show how practitioner-researchers have used insights from Action Research, Narrative Research, Self-Study, Autoethnography and Living Theory research to make their own original contributions to knowledge.
Digital visual data will be used to show how to clarify and communicate the meanings of embodied expressions of the values used by practitioner researchers to explain their educational influences in learning.
