Middlesex students victorious at The Skills Show

Three talented teams of Middlesex University students have scooped medals at the WorldSkills UK National Competition Finals in Birmingham.

The trio of student teams saw success in the mobile robotics category in the competition which is part of The Skills Show.

Middlesex students Meliha Beglerovic and Mehnaz Mahaboob secured gold, Eva Blessing Onyeulo and Joslyn West won silver, and Luke Bennett and Mohd Fadzli Bin Zainal Abidin picked up the bronze.

The student teams had to programme their robots to complete a series of tasks including navigating through a maze.

The Show, which ran from the 13 to 15 November 2014 at the NEC Birmingham, is the UK's largest skills and careers event.  The show hosts the WorldSkills UK National Competition Finals, which took place in more than 60 skills ranging from forensic science to engineering.

Middlesex University Professor of Design Engineering Mehmet Karamanoglu said: "Our student teams demonstrated an excellent level of skill to complete the challenges. I would like to congratulate all our medallists and everyone who took part."
