Student projects raise more than £4,000 on MDXCrowdfund

13/12/2016
Launched by Middlesex University Business School last academic year, MDXCrowdfund has been home to five successful student crowdfunding campaigns to date, raising more than £4,000 collectively

As students gain more awareness of the platform this year, the intention is to build on this early success and attract more and more projects to the platform.

Helping students fulfil their ambitions

Three of the successful crowdfunding campaigns featured on MDXCrowdfund helped 3rd year students secure the funding needed to make their final year film dissertation projects. The money they raised was used to cover the costs of actors, props, costumes and more.

The fourth, run by the MDX Real Tennis team, attracted £2,325 of donations and enabled the team to go on tour and do Middlesex University proud by winning four out of their five matches.

The first project to launch on MDXCrowdfund this academic year has been masterminded by MDXMatrix, Middlesex University’s talented cheerleading squad. The crowdfunding cheerleaders smashed their minimum funding target in a week and donations continue to roll in.

Commenting on MDXBusinessCrowdfund, Tufan Dirik, a 2016 BSc Biosciences graduate and one of the students behind the MDX Real Tennis campaign, said:

“I was very pleased with the results of our campaign as we achieved our target and were able to go on tour as planned. The platform itself was relatively simple to use. The only tricky part was to create a pitch that would entice people to donate!

“I would definitely recommend MDXCrowdfund to other students. More established crowdfunding platforms may be out there but I highly doubt that they help as much as the MDXCrowdfund team with a student’s campaign. The team were very helpful and showed us how to get the most out of the crowdfunding platform.”

Anna Kyprianou, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean, said:

“I am delighted to see students taking advantage of MDXCrowdfund. The successful projects we have seen to date are testament to the quality of the campaigns and the effort put into their promotion which takes stamina, creativity and continual effort.”

MDXCrowdfund is a fantastic resource and I hope that in the coming academic year we will see more and more students and staff from many different disciplines take advantage of our crowdfunding platform and the support we offer.”
