Reducing Plastic on Campus - Welcome Back Update

    03/10/2018

Last year, we set up a working group to look at ways to reduce plastic on campus.  We have already made progress:

    • You can buy a re-usable cup from any food outlet on campus for £3, with your first hot drink for free and a further 20p discount on drinks each time you reuse your cup
    • We are installing dedicated coffee cup recycling bins to deal with the disposable cups that simply will not shift, so support our efforts and please use them
    • Working closely with Chartwells, all hospitality orders will be served with china cups instead of disposable ones, glasses and glass bottles  instead of plastic for water and metal cutlery replaces plastic - wherever possible.
    • At the bar, plastic straws are being replaced by paper ones and available by request only. Drink stirrers are made from recyclable wood.
    • We have installed three brand new water bottle refill machines in the Grove, Quad and MDXHouse. We have already seen these machines used over 3,000 times.

Passionate about plastic reduction? We're recruiting a Student Intern to lead on the campaign.

The new intern will be responsible for supporting the University’s environmental initiative to reduce single plastic use on campus. You will bring your passion for a greener Middlesex to plan and deliver a range of impactful communications, campaigns and events to change behaviours and attitudes among both students and staff.
