Think before you print: introducing PaperCut Client

You are now able to access PaperCut Client – an environmental dashboard allowing you to quickly and easily assess the impact of your printing usage on the environment, global warming and waste management
In the academic year 2018/19, the MDX community collectively printed over 11 million pages, which is the equivalent of 1,360 trees being chopped down, or enough energy to provideelectricity to nearly 24 homes for one year.
We need to work together as a team to reduce the University’s use of paper and the impact of our printing on the environment.
There are two easy steps you can take to make a big difference:
Print only when absolutely necessary. Ask yourself: is this something I can access through my e-textbook and other digital device instead?
Always choose black and white over colour printing wherever possible. Colour printing consumes four times more plastic (four cartridges instead one) than black and white and uses more energy as the printer is required to heat the paper to a higher temperature to print successfully.

PaperCut Client
If you are using a University owned device you will be able to access the software through a widget installed on your desktop. If you bring your own device, you can download the software through KACE.
A user guide has been produced to help you make the most out of this new software.
The dashboard will show your individual balance as well as a breakdown of your environmental impact.
Additionally to improve your environmental impact you will be able to access a wide range of new tools including Web Print, a driver-less printing service that allows users to print by uploading documents from a web browser.
