No students were injured, but several rooms now have water damage as a result of efforts to put out the fire.
Unite are currently assessing the damage and seeking assurance from fire services around when affected residence will be able to safely return. In the meantime, Unite are ensuring that all affected students are being provided with alternative accommodation in nearby hotels.
There is a stand by the reception of Unite Halls where affected students can ask any questions that you have, including details around food and drink, temporary accommodation, support for your studies and insurance.
All University staff members are being made aware of the incident, so that they can ensure affected students are supported through this difficult time.
