    Join us for the Emerging Professional Programme 2020

    Getting a degree is brilliant, but employers are clear that you also need to evidence additional real-life skills in order to 'stand out' from other candidates when applying for jobs.

    Join us for the Emerging Professional Programme 2020 – flexible, interactive online and face-to-face activities designed to help you develop professional skills and attributes sought by employers, helping you to ‘stand out’ from other applicants.

    Upon completion of your Emerging Professional Programme, you will receive a PDF certificate referencing the skills and experience gained – a valuable addition to your CV and LinkedIn profile.

    Year 1 - Unpacking Opportunities

    Exclusively for 1st-year students at MDX, 'Unpacking Opportunities' will focus on supporting you to research, identify and unpack career opportunities available that match your subject of study and personal interests – enabling you at this early stage of your studies to gain invaluable insight into the wider range of career options open to you with your degree. You will gain:

    • Problem-solving and research skills
    • Sector knowledge/industry awareness and opportunity pathways
    • Collaboration / team-working skills
    • Presentation skills

    After reserving your place on the programme, you will then receive an email with further information on how to start.

    Programme Timeline:

    1. Induction - Thurs 23rd Jan, 12.00-13.00 in CG13
    2. Understanding your Skills - Weds 29th Jan, 14.00-15.00 in C104
    3. Your Elevator Pitch / Where to look for opportunities in your industry - Tues 4th Feb, 14.30-15.30 in C205
    4. ‘STAR technique’ with Civil Service - Tues 11th Feb, 13.00-15.30 in CG16
    5. Networking Event TBC

    Year 2 - The Power of Networking

    Exclusively for 2nd-year students at MDX, ‘The Power of Networking’ will help you to make the most of networking opportunities across your industry, to raise your profile and enhance your career.

    We will work with you to develop your networking skills and build your confidence in talking to employers and articulating your skills, experience and achievements. You will gain:

    • Networking skills and an understanding of how to market yourself to employers.
    • Collaboration / team-working skills
    • Presentation skills
    • Awareness of your online ‘brand’

    After reserving your place on the programme, you will then receive an email with further information on how to start.

    2. Networking for the Nervous / Elevator Pitches - Weds 29th Jan, 12.30-13.30 in C104
    3. Making the Most of LinkedIn / Your Online Brand - Tues 4th Feb, 13.00-14.00 in C205
    4. ‘STAR technique’ with Civil Service - Tues 11th Feb, 13.00-15.30 in CG16
    5. Networking Event TBC

    How much work is involved?

    We recognise that time is valuable to you so we have designed the programme to be fully flexible, with e-learning activities that can be completed online, plus optional live workshops and 1-to-1 support to enhance your employability.

    We estimate you will need to set aside approximately 2-3 hours per week to complete the e-learning exercises. You will also be invited to attend dedicated workshops and a networking event.

    If you need any extra help, you can also access 1:1 employability support from your MDXworks adviser.

    What about Year 3?

    The Emerging Professional Programme is exclusively for Year 1 or Year 2 students, however MDXworks will be announcing a programme for 3rd year MDX students in 2020. Please check MDXworks.com for updates.
