Santander are offering 5 grants of £1000 to the winners of this competition.
With the help of Santander, students will have the opportunity to set up and run a micro business that could one day become something bigger.
The recent pandemic has led to many people losing their jobs. However, it has led to greater opportunities for people to set up and run micro businesses.
A micro business is a small business that is run part time and employs fewer than 3 people including the owner.
Aim:
Enable students to develop their business planning skills with the view of setting up and running a micro business.
Process:
The participants need to come up with an idea for a micro business that they could start. The business can be online, or it can be live. They then need to prepare a video pitch and short business plan of 1500 words.
Video
The participants need to create a 3 minute video on their idea. The participant can use any format such as presentation, animation, drama or storytelling.
Business plan
The business plan must not exceed 2000 words with no appendix. It needs to consist of the following:
A brief outline of the problem
A brief explanation of the solution
A short description of the target market and main competitors
A short description of how the customer will be able to buy from you
A brief outline of the finances
A brief outline of your skills and ability to make this happen
The video and plan will be judged on the following criteria by three external judges who are not employed by Middlesex University.
Applicants can engage with EDH@MDX to discuss their entry and get advice and support.
The competition opens on Thursday 19th November 2020 at 09:00 and closes on Friday 15th January 2021 at 17:00 with the winners announced on Monday 8th February 2021
