Security officers will start wearing body worn cameras
19/02/2020
Your safety is of upmost importance to us. That’s why after extensive consultation with the Student’s Union, Universities and College Union (UCU), Unison, the Security team will be enhancing its existing CCTV policy with the introduction of body worn cameras for its officers that support safety and security for the whole MDX community.
Research has shown that using body worn cameras can help de-escalate incidents, modify behaviour and prevent harm. The footage can also help resolve complaints and disputes quickly and fairly.
Body worn cameras will only be switched on when security officers attend an incident and officers will always inform those present when they intend to use the cameras.
The use of body worn cameras is covered by data protection legislation which alongside the University data protection policy will be fully adhered to. This means the viewing or storage of data will be strictly controlled.
Security officers will commence wearing body worn cameras from Monday 30th March and should you require more information please contact the Head of Security, Nick on n.wise@mdx.ac.uk
