As you may already know, the COVID-19 vaccination is now being offered to everyone aged 18 or over. You can get your vaccinations at either local sites (such as GP clinics) or larger vaccination centres. You are able to book your vaccinations via the NHS website.
Why get the vaccine
Getting the COVID-19 vaccines is the best way to protect yourself and others. Research has shown that the vaccines:
significantly reduce your risk of getting seriously ill or dying from COVID-19
reduce your risk of getting symptoms of COVID-19
will help reduce your risk of catching and spreading COVID-19
The 1st dose should give you good protection from 3 or 4 weeks after you've had it. You need 2 doses for most vaccine types for stronger and longer-lasting protection. It is recommended that you get the same vaccine for your 1st and 2nd doses. Therefore if your 1st dose was something other than Pfizer, you should book your vaccination at a centre where you can get the same type of vaccine for your 2nd dose. You should only get a different type of vaccine between doses if you are in immediate high risk and unable to get the same type of vaccine for both doses.
Barnet Council have been working with young people who live in the Borough to understand more about the reasons they’re taking the vaccine. You can hear their stories on YouTube.
