What does your identity mean to you? Do you feel that you have a good sense of community with others who have a similar identity to you? Having a clear sense of who you are, your values and what you believe in, is an important part of your wellbeing and can help you to connect with other like-minded people. Equally, having a clear sense of your identity can help you to navigate scenarios in life where you might meet people who have very different values and beliefs.

Exploring gratitude and finding purpose
In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly associated with increased happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. Taking notice of small things that you are grateful for every day can help you to focus on the good. That doesn’t mean that everything is always going to be positive – we know that in life there will be ups and downs - but noticing small things that you are grateful for such as a tasty meal, the opportunity to be studying at University, having a friend to text, or the sun coming out on a rainy day can help to refocus the brain. Try a free app like Presently to get into a daily gratitude habit.
Having purpose in life is one of the central motivating aims in your life — the reason you get up in the morning. A purpose can guide life decisions, influence behaviour, shape goals, offer a sense of direction, and create meaning. What is your sense of purpose for studying this course at MDX? Are you looking to follow a particular career path that you are passionate about, are you developing your existing skills to have a career change and a better work-life balance, or something else?
