    Culture shock

These may be a few things to consider:

    • British people like to queue so it is important to wait in line and not push to the front as this may cause upset.
    • Politeness is important in British culture so always try and remember to say 'please' and 'thank you'.
    • British people are generally quite reserved but this does not mean that they are unfriendly.
    • Smoking is not permitted in any public areas in the UK which include restaurants, bars, shops and railway stations.
    • There are many bars, restaurants and pubs that serve alcohol, however, you do not have to drink alcohol when visiting them.
    • You will usually find that British people are always talking about the weather as it is very unpredictable. You can experience all four seasons in one day!
    • We are a diverse and multi-cultural nation and we respect the values and beliefs of others. This is reflected in the right of individuals to wear items of clothing that represent their beliefs and customs.
