The University supports fairtrade by supplying Fairtrade products on campus and through our hospitality. Fairtrade is a global movement with a strong and active presence in the UK, represented by the Fairtrade Foundation. Fairtrade is a movement for change that works directly with businesses, consumers and campaigners to make trade deliver for farmers and workers. The international Fairtrade system (which the Fairtrade Foundation is a part of) represents the world's largest and most recognised fair trade system. We are a global organisation working to secure a better deal for farmers and workers.
Why do we promote Fairtrade at the University?
Fairtrade supports farmers and workers in gaining more from trade and through this they are empowered to control their lives. It is an alternative approach that is based on partnership; one between those who grow our food and those that consume it.
With Fairtrade you have the power to change the world every day. With simple shopping choices you can get farmers a better deal. And that means they can make their own decisions, control their futures and lead the dignified life everyone deserves. With the University’s Vision, Mission and Values at the forefront of our minds we want to make a difference that counts in all aspects.
Middlesex University encourage these small changes to your purchases by ensuring our merchandise and catering outlets have a selection of Fairtrade products available on campus. From Fairtrade Hoodies and T-shirts to Joe’s Coffee, Jackson’s tea or a gluten free Flapjacks and many more!!
The successful collaboration with our Merchandise and Catering suppliers has assisted with the University being awarded “Fairtrade University Status”
