      • Your Impact: Access to hundreds of vacancies for part-time student jobs and graduate jobs

Through many different feedback mechanisms, students have stated that they wanted it to be easier to find a job, whilst studying as a student and after they graduate.

To help students find part-time jobs on campus, we are launching Unitemps at Middlesex University in February 2017. It will be based within the MDXworks Employment Hub in CG07. This will highlight all on-campus jobs that are available to students and will all be offering at least the London Living Wage.

For off-campus and graduate roles, we launched our employability portal This is an exclusive student vacancy database packed full of opportunities for both international and UK students, with the jobs board also synced with the UK’s most popular job search engine,

      • Your Impact: Tailored employment support, based on your subject area

Student feedback within MDXworks’ Skills Assessments said that the graduate employment support was too generic.

We have now recruited an Employability Business Partner for each School, to focus on specific sector requirements as well as deliver tailored sessions such as Job Clubs for Business School students.

Students can now also complete a final year self-assessment to support a student and their assigned Employability Adviser to kick-start a job search campaign. The assessment will provide you with your own, personal check list as well as an overall score and summary.

      • Your Impact: Opportunities for 1:1 graduate employment support

Feedback within MDXworks’ Skills Assessments said that students wanted to be able to meet an advisor to have a 1:1 discussion.

In August 2016, we launched a student-centred space for drop-in support, information, advice and guidance on all things related to student’s employment prospects. Plus via UniHub, you can now book an appointment with your Schools Employability Business Partner.

      • Your Impact: Access to employment workshops throughout the whole academic year

Students fed back to Employability Service (now MDXworks) that they weren’t always able to attend the workshops available.

Workshops are now run throughout the entire academic year, including a summer programme of workshops to support final year students in particular.

      • Your Impact: Continued employment support even after you graduate

Following student feedback from recent graduates, the MDXworks on-line team, now provide dedicated engagement over the telephone, email and web chat to graduates, assigning graduates to an Employability Adviser who supports them secure a graduate role.

      • Your Impact: Access to placements in the local community

Following feedback from students about having more opportunities to find part-time jobs, in September 2016 the Students’ Union launched a brand new Community Placement Scheme.

The Community Placements offer students well-paid, flexible job opportunities which fit around their studies. As well as enabling students to utilise their skills and knowledge in a practical setting - to the huge benefit of their CVs – the placements also have a positive impact on the local community, raising the profile of Middlesex students within Barnet and beyond.

Fifty students have found placements already, with placements in areas such as research, teaching, campaigning, and even developing a mental health app for a local primary school.
