A placement is an opportunity to gain valuable work experience as a part of your degree. The placement options that are available to you will depend on the course you study, however, many courses at MDX will allow you to complete a year-long placement where you can immerse yourself in a relevant role.

Only the MDXworks team can approve a placement and add it to your programme.

Your dedicated Employability Adviser will make sure to keep you up to date with the latest opportunities as well as offering the help and advice you need to succeed with your application.
You generally wouldn’t be able to be self-employed as you need to be assessed by your supervisor in order to pass the placement module. The Placement Administrator will confirm this during the approval process.
Please note if you have a Student route (formerly tier 4) visa you are not allowed to work as a freelancer/self employed.
You can do a placement overseas but please complete the Placement Details Form first. Some of the other paperwork such as the insurance documents might not be needed. Please also note that you might need a visa to work in a different country and also take out travel insurance to cover yourself. If you working in your home country you will not need insurance.
Our Placement Administrator will work with our Faculty Adviser and Module Leader to assess whether your placement is suitable for you and your course.
In order for you to be added to the relevant placement module you must drop another of your taught modules and we have to alert Student Records which one that is.
Please contact our Placement Administrator who can add the module in the form for you.
You will also need to upload a job description and insurance documents along with the WP1 form that your employer needs to complete and give to you.

You cannot start your placement until you have confirmation from the Placement Administrator.
You need to contact your Module Leader who will assign a supervisor for you.
This will be emailed to your employer directly but if you need a copy please contact the Placement Administrator.
Whilst you are working from home or online it won’t be needed. If you do go on site or travel at all, you will need to complete these forms and upload them, as well as having insurance covered by the employer or the university.
It will be acceptable if you are not working with the public. If you are, then you will need to covered by your employers Public Liability insurance.
Please let us know and we will add you to the Middlesex insurances if you are working in the UK.
Please refer to the module handbook or contact your module leader to see what assignments you need to complete for the placement module.
You can undertake a placement at MDX but you must still complete the Placement Details Form.
These are currently not being offered at present.
You can but you must complete all the relevant paperwork and let us know that you are working for someone you know.
Freelancing would not count if you need to be assessed in some way by a supervisor. If you are using the experience as part of a case study or as evidence in an assignment then freelancing will be accepted. You will need all the usual insurances in place for any freelance work.

The Placement Administrator will approve it alongside the tutor but it will be the Administrator only who will let you know it has been approved.
Some students need to be added to a placement module. If you are already on the relevant module then please put 'not applicable' to this question.
Please ask your employer to email us an outline of your duties so we can verify this is a suitable placement for you and to ensure we are aware of your duties in case your employer does not fulfil your requirements.

Your employer will receive a WP1 form once you fill in the Placement Details Form. It includes important COVID-19 related health and safety documents that we need in order to ensure your safety. This might not be relevant if you are working remotely.
