The Language and Culture Exchange (LCExchange) is based on the idea of connecting people who speak different languages so that they can learn from one another. In previous years we would match two students so that they were learning in pairs, however due to the COVID pandemic we have decided to run online language classes instead.
This format allows more students to get involved and makes the learning experience better. It is more structured allowing you to learn more and join at different levels. The classes are run by other students. The student facilitators are usually native speakers or highly proficient in the language they try to 'teach'. This way creates more relaxed and fun atmosphere when learning and allows both facilitating students and those who are joining in to gain key employability skills and experience. It also gives you the opportunity to meet more people than in a pair setting.
The focus of those online classes is not only on learning the language but also understand the customs and traditions of the country where the language is spoken. Each session will have the culture element embedded where you can learn more about the cultures where the language is spoken. At the end of each course, you can apply for a certificate of participation.
It’s a fantastic way to learn or improve your language skills whilst meeting new people and improving your employability. Best of all its free to Middlesex students.
Introduction to the Language and Culture Exchange programme
The classes are now finished for this academic year. We try to enhance our offer every year and are currently exploring different language options for Academic Year 2022/23. Typically we have: Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin and Portuguese.
Next academic year, we are hoping to run a combination of online and face to face activities where possible. All classes and activities will start in October 2022. If you would like to register your interest, visit our My Learning pages and Sign up.
