The Language and Culture Exchange (LCExchange) is based on the idea of connecting students who speak different languages so that they can learn from one another via informal language classes/meet-ups and face-to-face or online activities and events.
All activities are run by other students. The student facilitators are usually native speakers or highly proficient in the language they try to 'teach'. This approach creates a more relaxed and fun atmosphere when learning and allows both facilitating students and those who are joining in, to gain key employability skills and develop new experiences. It also gives you the opportunity to meet new people and build professional networks.
All activities focus not only on learning and practicing the language but also understanding the customs and traditions of the country where the language is spoken. It’s a fantastic way to learn or improve your language skills whilst meeting new people and improving your employability. Best of all it's free for Middlesex students.
If you actively participate in our events for a period of time, you can also apply for a Certificate of Participation to evidence your involvement in extra-curricular activities.
The online self-paced courses for French and Spanish will become available to students in early October. Other activities will start at the end of October 2022 and will run throughout term one and term two. If you would like to register your interest to attend and participate and for further details, visit our My Learning pages.
You can also become a language facilitator
If you are a native speaker of a popular European or Asian language and would like to develop your skills by becoming a language facilitator or preparing an event to support the LCExchange team, get in touch via email: lcexchange@mdx.ac.uk.
We always look for students who are native speakers and willing to build their personal experiences and confidence, no prior experience needed.
