Northern Line Closure this spring

22/01/2024
Transport for London (TfL) has announced a partial closure of the Northern line over some parts of Spring and Summer 2024, affecting all stations between Golders Green and Edgware, including Hendon Central.

The line will be closed to allow for a major redevelopment of Colindale station, which will be temporarily closed in summer and autumn 2024.

There are other options for getting to campus, including local buses and National Rail Thameslink trains from Hendon Station. We'll be in touch in the coming months on plans for teaching and getting to campus during this time.

The closure takes place on the following dates, but we encourage you to plan your travel and check the TfL website for track closures and the latest travel advice when traveling:

  • Tuesday 2 to Thursday 11 April
  • Saturday 8 to Sunday 9 June
  • Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 June
  • Saturday 29 to Sunday 30 June

Further closures on the Northern line are expected in summer and autumn this year, which will be announced by TfL later this year.

Classes and timetabled sessions

Teaching will remain as scheduled for most subject areas across the University, so if you have on campus sessions, please plan alternative travel routes in advance.

If there are changes to scheduled teaching, then these will be communicated to you locally by your programme teams.

The following areas have confirmed that changes to scheduled teaching will be taking place:

  • For Education students, scheduled teaching will be made available online
  • For London Sport Institute students, whilst no teaching is scheduled, scheduled drop-in sessions will be made available online
  • For Nursing students, year 3 undergraduate teaching will be made available online. Undergraduate Nursing students in years 1 and 2 will continue to have skills sessions taking place at StoneX. Other sessions will be moved online
  • For Psychology students, no teaching will be impacted as the affected week is used for assessment support and tutorials. These will be provided online for those who find it difficult to travel to campus
  • For Social Work students, for affected groups, teaching sessions will be provided online
  • All programmes in Arts and Creative Industries have confirmed on-campus teaching during the closure period, due to the need for specialist spaces and resources
