The Enterprise Development Hub (EDH@MDX) is a university wide initiative for students, alumni and staff that want to become business start-ups/owners, self-employed, freelance, contractor, sole trader and those who wish to be more entrepreneurial. Dr Simon Best heads up EDH@MDX and is supported by academics and external industry experts.
Our mission is to improve positive outcomes for students and staff with regards to the development of enterprise and entrepreneurial skills. We do this by providing the collaborative support of academics, external practitioners and volunteers.
EDH@MDX provides support, training and motivation through a range of workshops, seminars, mentoring and events. Our core workshops cover a wide range of topics including, innovation, business planning, the basics of business and networking. Through our networks we also offer seminars on special areas such as, e-commerce, social and eco-enterprise.
EDH@MDX holds two group mentoring sessions a week where open discussions help entrepreneurs raise and answer questions about their ideas. Over the following weeks ideas are honed and moved forward to a point where they may benefit from individual specialised mentoring.
EDH@MDX is based in the Williams building (W141) and operates an open door policy. Please feel free to email us or drop by to arrange an appointment.
So far EDH@MDX has helped hundreds of students, staff and alumni develop their self-employment aspirations as well as improve their employability by developing skills that are valuable to businesses. Many of the students we work with end up volunteering within EDH helping support our activities and sharing their knowledge and experience.
