MDX wins Pan London Award for Nursing Apprenticeships

Middlesex University is supporting the MillionPlus #ThinkModern campaign with an event at the Palace of Westminster
The university has successfully been awarded a framework contract to provide Trainee Nursing Associate Apprenticeships to all employers across the London and South-East region until 2021.
Commenting on the Award, Dr Sinead Mehigan, Head of Department of Adult, Child Nursing and Midwifery said:
“It is really important for Middlesex University to be on this framework as it enables any NHS employer in London to approach us directly to satisfy their training needs without the need for any further procurement competitions.
“We are pleased to have been awarded the opportunity to continue working with the NHS in London and will continue providing our London community with highly skilled and professional Nursing and Nursing Associate staff.”
London faces a challenging target during 2019 to recruit 1710 Nursing Associate Apprentices, across all NHS and healthcare sectors – acute, community, mental health, primary care, and third sector organisations such as hospices, care homes and the wider health economy. As part of this ambitious and critical recruitment plan, Middlesex will be expected to play a key role in supporting recruitment to achieve the overall target.

Last year the university secured two other framework contracts to become one of several providers of Nursing Degree Apprenticeships in London and this success in winning apprenticeship tenders for the faculty looks to continue for a further 2-3 years.
The Nursing Associate is a new role within the discipline of nursing. It is a generic role rather than field specific and is intended to bridge the gap between a health care assistant and a registered nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council 2018). The role plays a critical part in NHS care and is a vital component of our healthcare provision.
While this Framework is mainly for public sector employers, it will also be available to other partners within the system, therefore Middlesex may be providing training to a range of charitable organisations who work alongside the NHS such as Cancer Care organisations and Private Care Homes.
