MDX supports the #ThinkModern campaign

16/05/2019
Middlesex University is supporting the MillionPlus #ThinkModern campaign with an event at the Palace of Westminster

The #Think Modern campaign highlights the enormous contribution to the UK made by modern universities and their students.

Middlesex’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Blackman and our Director of Apprenticeships, Dr Darryll Bravenboer, have contributed to the campaign. Professor Blackman has written a blog on ‘aspiration, opportunity and inclusion’ and Dr Bravenboer one on ‘making Britain work’.

The event was held on the 14th of May in the State Rooms at Speaker’s House, kindly hosted by the Speaker, The Rt Hon John Bercow MP, and it gave parliamentarians the chance to meet with modern university students and staff.

Commenting on the campaign, Professor Blackman said:

“We’re extremely proud to back the Think Modern campaign. MillionPlus is the Association for Modern Universities in the UK, and the voice of 21st century higher education. The modern universities were established over the past few decades to help ensure that the UK’s industries and public services have the graduates they need. They account for more than half of the UK’s higher education sector, educating over a million students a year, delivering world-class teaching and research, widening participation, transforming lives and creating a highly skilled workforce. They thrive on meeting the challenges posed by a rapidly changing world. Governments need to #ThinkModern if they want to boost productivity and innovation while driving social mobility and greater equality”.

The campaign explores the work of these universities, focusing on six theme areas – Making Britain Work; Pathways, Partnerships and Productivity; Creative and Technological Skills for the 21st Century; Innovation and Research; Aspiration, Opportunity and Inclusion; and Entrepreneurial, Enterprising, Enriching.
