Charlotte Barnett is a current 3rd year Veterinary Nursing student at MDX, who has been leading on this project to make MDX a hedgehog friendly campus. She has recently made a bid for funding, in order to purchase hedgehog houses to help keep our hedgehogs safe.

Charlotte has managed to receive funding from both the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and also raised money, that was generated by the 5p disposable cup charge. The hedgehog houses have now been installed, which puts us on the right track to being a MDX a hedgehog friendly campus.

We would like to congratulate Charlotte for her hard work and dedication to this project and encourage students to have a look at the campaign and find out how you can get involved with her projects here.

Alongside our hedgehog houses, Charlotte has also made sure that stickers will to be placed onto gardening tools, to remind the grounds team to check for hedgehogs prior to use.

MDX will also be offering hedgehog information across campus, which will be available as soon as we return for face-to-face teaching.

Charlotte also wrote a blog about hedgehog safety during Bonfire Night, in order to raise awareness and encourage people to provide a safe environment for hibernating hedgehogs.

This article was published onto the MDXSU website, which you will be able to find here.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, Charlotte has set up a 'Virtual Fundraising Pot', so that people can donate to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society charity.
