Middlesex University students have scooped an impressive array of awards as they continue to excel in fields as diverse as sport, filmmaking and financial trading.
Adithi Banerjee, who is studying for BSc in Veterinary Nursing at Middlesex, was awarded Young Coach of the Year by Middlesex Coaching Association (MCoA).
Four Middlesex BA Animation students have been announced as the winners of the 2024 Phil Davies Award and will receive funding to complete their proposed short films from Peppa Pig producer Mr Davies.

A team of business students came fifth in Europe and twenty-fourth in the world in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge.

Veterinary nursing student knocks judges for six as she picks up cricket coaching award
Adithi Banerjee, who is studying for BSc in Veterinary Nursing at Middlesex, was awarded Young Coach of the Year by Middlesex Coaching Association (MCoA).
Adithi was invited to Lord’s Cricket Ground, which is Middlesex County Cricket Club’s home ground and is known worldwide as the Home of Cricket, to receive the award earlier this month.
Middlesex’s Club Coach Rory Coutts presented her with a trophy to mark the accolade, which recognises a young person who is making a difference, passing on their enthusiasm for the game and inspiring the next generation of players.
Chair of the MCoA Rod Croucher presided over the ceremony and spoke to Adithi after her win. Adithi has also been selected for the National Awards by the England Cricket Board, with the results announced in the New Year.
Her father Soumen Banerjee said: “This is a great achievement and recognition, especially since the Lord’s stadium is part of Middlesex and also the University has supported Adithi in her achievement.
“I would like to thank you and all at the University for the support given to Adithi as she continues her education and excellence in cricket.”

Animation students scoop awards and funding from Peppa Pig producer
Four Middlesex BA Animation students have been announced as the winners of the 2024 Phil Davies Award.
The winners, who were announced at the Close-Up Cinema in East London on Wednesday, December 13, won the awards based on proposals for short animated films.
They will receive funding donated by Mr Davies to improve the quality of their projects.
Robyn Wisker-Stilling scooped the top spot for her proposal for Miss Odd and Arturs Voblikovs came second with his project Anomaly.
Marty August Martin and Matteo Gallina came joint-third for their proposals The Seal Hunter and Pecking Order.
Robyn and Arturs will receive funding for materials and sound design by Fonic Post Production. Marty will receive funding for materials and Matteo will get money towards his sound design.
Finance students do the business in global trading challenge
A team of Middlesex University students came fifth in Europe and twenty-fourth in the world in a financial trading competition.
The team Alpha Trading, which was led by BA Finance and Business student Benjamin Rosenfeld, ranked highly in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge, in which 10,430 people from all over the world were competing.
The contest pits students from across the globe against each other to experience first-hand what real-world investing looks and feels like.
Traders used the Bloomberg Trading Terminal to define market assumptions, develop a return-generating strategy, and execute trades.
Teams were given a virtual $1,000,000 and strict trading rules regarding investment of the funds, including barring the use of short selling with the aim of generating the most profit in six weeks.
Alpha Trading achieved an impressive $160,138 in profit over the period.
Benjamin said: “As the leader of Alpha Trading, participating in the 2023 Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge has been a journey of strategic thinking and quick decision-making.
“This achievement not only validates the result of hard work but also inspires the continuation of pushing boundaries in the dynamic world of finance.
“Looking ahead, my hope is that following this success a future endeavour in the financial landscape will be on the cards.”

Film graduates win tenth award for movie made at Middlesex University
The filmmakers, whose core team is writer-director Marcel Ruizendaal, producer Isabel Campos Neves, cinematographer Jonathan Gamble, sound and production designer Fran Christie and editor Vivian Siao-Han Feng, won Best Student Film at the MiraBan Film Awards last month.
The graduates were presented with the gong at the Bromley Picture House by the Mayor of Bromley.
The film tells the story of the Brouwer family, who find themselves trapped in their attic surrounded by water after the Germans flooded large parts of The Netherlands towards the end of WW2 in a last attempt to stop the Allied advance.
With their rations dwindling, the question of whether to stay in the house, or risk going to the Nazi-occupied dry land begins to divide the family.
The film was nominated for awards at 25 festivals all over Europe, winning at 10.
Its biggest wins included Best Sound at the Royal Television Society Student Awards in London, Best Undergraduate Film at the Learning On Screen Awards, Best Student Director at the London Director Awards and Best Inspirational Film at the Pápa Historical Film Festival.
