Student emergency fund

Are you suffering financial hardship as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic?

In recognition of the impact of Covid-19 on students, the Department of Education has allocated Middlesex University some additional one-off funding to address student hardship over the coming months.

This fund provides immediate financial support to students acutely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.  The fund prioritises students who are in the greatest need of money to support the continuation of their study and research.

Closing date for applications

The closing date for completed applications including the required supporting documentation is Wednesday 24 March 2021 11.59pm (UK time)

  • You should apply if you can evidence

  • You are in need of financial assistance
  • You need extra financial help to meet costs not covered by other support sources
  • You need help to continue learning online
  • You have a financial emergency and you are at risk of leaving your studies

And you are:

  • enrolled on a postgraduate programme (taught or research)
  • enrolled on an undergraduate programme
  • not enrolled and studying a deferral and/or reassessment to submit this academic year to progress to the next level or complete your studies
  • Forced to interrupt studies because exams/classes are postponed due to the pandemic and progression is not currently possible’

and an

  • International student or
  • Home student or
  • EU/EEA student
  • Full-time or
  • Part-time
  • And have a UK bank account including banking Apps such as Monzo or Revolut

You can apply to this fund for financial help with needs including food, utility bills, rent, interim payments while you await benefits, and technology costs for online learning. The fund cannot be used to cover your Tuition Fees.

How to apply

Complete this Application Form and submit with documents evidencing your financial hardship including current statement(s) from bank account(s) to https://unihelp.mdx.ac.uk/enquiry/

  • How your application is assessed and payment amounts

    Applications for the fund are assessed on individual financial need and the impact of the pandemic on the ability to continue to study and research.

    Successful applications can expect a payment of between £500 - £1000

  • Response times

    Applications are assessed as quickly as possible. Successful applications will receive a payment from the fund between 7 and 10 working days after the completed application (including documentation) has been received. Payments made from the University bank account to another bank account can normally take up to a further 3 working days.
