Middlesex launches new centre to develop education research

Over 100 University academics, staff and external partners came together to celebrate the launch of the Centre for Education Research and Scholarship.
The Centre will provide a focal point for education-related research across the university and within the Department, bringing together Middlesex's vibrant educational research community.
Staff and students involved in education research and scholarship will benefit from support from dedicated research clusters led by subject specialists, as well as a program of events and seminars designed to nurture and develop their work.
The CERS' initial points of focus include Higher Education, Work-Based Learning, Knowledge Transfer, Ethics and Childhood and Society. It will support the provision of PhD and DProf doctoral programmes and provide training in doctoral research. A weekly Research Club will allow researchers, both students and staff, to gather to share knowledge and experiences in an open, inclusive environment.
As well as providing a strong support network and opportunities for collaboration and development, CERS will allow researchers to explore how to make a contribution as scholars, disseminate our work and make it impactful and worthwhile. Professor Paul Gibbs, Director of CERS, who initiated the Centre said "We need to emancipate and recognise the academic endeavour and develop our identity; our watchwords are collaboration, liberation and social justice."
"I'm delighted with the initiative of the Centre for Education Research and Scholarship," said Jan Williams, Dean of the School of Health and Education. "Education is an area that we excel in both in terms of teaching and practice. Moving forward we now want to strongly develop our research base."
