A Day in the Life of: Kevin Lancelot

This week's story is about a 2005 Dance Performance Graduate - Kevin Lancelot. Kevin has done voiceover work for Adidas - (check out the video) and has been an actor in The Bill (a British police television series). Lacking a role model in his early years, through his achievements and with the help of his teachers at Middlesex University he has become a role model for others.

The Interview

Tell us a bit about your time at MDX – Did you get any sports/ societies/ extra-curricular activities?

I got involved in a few activities playing for MDX football team and being a DJ at the SU. However, initially I struggled at MDX as there was no blueprint or role model for me to learn from. With the help of teachers like @Anne Donnelly & Dr Lesley Main, I became the role model.

What is your job role and who do you work for?

I am a dancer, actor and 3rd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. I can choose when I work.

What time do you normally wake up – what’s your morning routine?

I usually get up between 7:30 & 8:00, stretch and prepare for the day ahead.

How do you get to work – what do you like doing on your commute?

I will typically drive and listen to music.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I don’t have to do it, I love to do it.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

Sometimes the uncertainty or not being credited for helping others in their careers meaning you have to be very strong-minded.

What inspires you every day?

Myself because my journey was rough in laying down the foundations but I enjoy the fruits of my labour now.

What time do you normally get home and what do you do to relax?

The time I get home depends on what I am up to that day. Then I play Fifa on manual settings.

What time do you go to bed?

I try to get as much rest as I can but it depends.

And finally, what one piece of advice would you give to a current student about to graduate from Middlesex?

Remember those who paved the way for you and master your defence because you took the road that not all could complete.
