Students and the children of Barnet refused to let inclement weather dampen their yuletide spirits at Thursday's annual MDXmas Market, taking to the ice rink, feeding real reindeer, visiting Santa's Grotto, eating festive food, playing games run by MDXSU and MDX Sport and riding rides all in the name of charity. Also on offer were over forty stalls manned by Middlesex students, staff and alumni to help shoppers find their perfect Christmas present.
Despite the rain, Christmas came to the Scholars Courtyard on our Hendon campus, bringing with it music, magic and merriment and successfully raising over £1,000 for a number of charities.
Inayat Patel, a Marketing student who assisted with the running of the market, said "It's really inspiring to see students, staff, MDXSU and alumni coming together. It showcases how great MDX people really are - and to do some good at the same time? – It's all just too wondrous."
Local school children from the Barnet area queued up to visit Father Christmas in his Grotto while parents bought gifts from market stalls weighted with products handmade by Middlesex students and staff including knitted jewellery, personalised t-shirts, photography and decorations.
"I've bought a knitted iphone case, eaten my weight in blue candyfloss and fed a real reindeer from my hand." Inayat added. "I'm so happy."
