Dr Anne Daguerre, Associate Professor in Work Employment and Welfare, has been awarded one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world – the Fulbright fellowship.
The fellowship will fund Dr Daguerre’s ‘Islam on campus’ project comparing how three universities in the UK, France and the USA meet the needs of their Muslim students.
“I’m delighted to have been awarded this fellowship and look forward to carrying out research in universities across three countries,” Dr Daguerre said.
“My aim is to find best practice to identify how students can live together in harmony in a common space in the pursuit of knowledge while at the same holding deeply held beliefs that may not be shared by their peers.”
Dr Daguerre will travel to the USA in January 2017 for six months at George Mason University in Northern Virginia, then in 2018 she will focus on experiences at Middlesex University London and Paris VIII University. The results of her research are due at the end of 2018.

The Fulbright Program is a programme of competitive, merit-based grants to enable international education exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists.
It was founded by United States Senator J William Fulbright in 1946 to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills.
