Middlesex University Mauritius and Medine Group celebrated the official ground breaking ceremony for the new Middlesex campus in Flic-en-Flac on Wednesday 26 October

Her Excellency, The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and the Minister of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

This landmark follows the joint venture agreement signed in May 2016 between Medine Group and Middlesex University to construct a state-of-the-art university campus within Medine Smart City in Flic-en-Flac, Mauritius.

New campusThe development, which will replace the existing Middlesex University Mauritius campus, is scheduled to be completed in September 2017 and will provide students with some of the finest Higher Education facilities in the country.

The new campus will feature cutting-edge IT laboratories, classrooms, lecture theatres, a learning resource centre and extensive study and leisure spaces.

Professor Andrea Dlaska, Middlesex University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Learning and Innovation said: “This ground breaking marks the start of an exciting new era for the University and for Higher Education in Mauritius. The new campus situated in the heart of the Smart City development will continue to provide a high quality British standard education and the excellent facilities will benefit the wider community as well as students.”

The new campus, which is already in construction, boasts 8,000 metre2 and will have a capacity of 1,400 students. By September 2017, the existing students as well as the new cohorts will be able to enjoy a modern building as well as all the facilities designed around providing the best student experiences.

The development of this new campus will not impact on current students and staff at the existing campus who will move across to the new facilities when completed.
