£1,500 raised for Sport Relief

Over 450 participants took part in the Sport Relief Mile on Thursday 17 March, raising a total of £1,500 for the charity.

The event was made up of around staff and students from the University with additional support from parents, teachers and pupils from St Joseph’s and Northway primary schools in surrounding Hendon and Mill Hill areas.

The Sport Relief mile was a fun event, offering participants the option to complete the mile in any way they saw fit. People, run, walk, wheel, hop their way round the course and due to the fun element no strict race rules were implemented.

However the fastest male and female runners were (male) Franco Raimondi and (female) Stephanie Mainstone (pictured below) who are both Middlesex university staff members.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Corporate Services, Richard Middleton started the event. He also ran the mile supported by Sonic The Hedgehog and The Middlesex Heart, to the amusement of the local school pupils.

The Sport and Recreation Service also organised additional sports activities in the form of a charity cricket match and a pillow fight in collaboration with the Students Union, which took place on the 3G pitch and the courtyard area outside MDX House, raising another £150 for charity.

In total the Sport Relief events raised over £1,500 for charity.
