Baroness Brenda Hale came to Middlesex on Friday 22nd February, to give the first of the ‘Professor Brenda Barrett Lectures’. This first lecture was called ‘The Life of the Lady Law Lord’.
Lady Hale is the United Kingdom’s most senior judge. In 2004 She was the first and only woman to become ‘Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, after a varied career as an academic lawyer, law reformer and judge.
Professor Barrett in whose honour the lecture was given, is an Emeritus Professor of Law at Middlesex University. She was one of the first female Professors of Law in the UK and Ireland and former Head of School at Middlesex University. Prof Barrett is to this day, a leading authority on Health & Safety Law. Prof. Barrett perfectly represents Middlesex University, as she joined Hendon College, which went on to become Middlesex Polytechnic, before ultimately becoming Middlesex University.
