Vitae is dedicated to realising the potential of researchers through transforming their professional and career development. Vitae does this by providing free advice and resources related to doing a PhD, supervising a PhD, working as a member of research staff or developing as a PI. It also provides focused guides and resources for new PhD students.

Researcher Development Framework Planner (RDF)

Middlesex University has a licence to access the Vitae Researcher Development Framework Planner - an easy-to-use web application which helps researchers set and achieve goals, map their capabilities, and access development resources. It is an extremely useful tool to help researchers develop their skills as a researcher. The RDF Planner is for researchers, from first-year doctoral candidates to research staff to principal investigators.

The RDF Planner is:

The RDF Planner can be used to:

* an interactive and engaging way for researchers to reflect and plan their professional development

* personalised and flexible for the individual researcher, focused on their specific development needs

* available anytime, anywhere through an internet enable browser with touch compatibility features

* prepare for one-to-one reviews with your supervisor or principal investigator about your development as a researcher

* identify your strengths and areas for further development

* provide a language to evidence your skills to current and future employers

Signing Up

Please note you will only be able to sign up if you are an enrolled student.

Please sign up to secure access to the RDF Planner by emailing ResearchDegrees@mdx.ac.uk ensuring you include

  • Your full name
  • Your student email address (we can only sign you up with your student email address)
  • Student number
  • School name

After we have registered you, you will receive an email (please ensure you check your junk folder) from Vitae within 24 hours confirming your access. The email will also contain further instructions on how to access the RDF Planner.

RDF Planner Privacy Notice for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

We are pleased to inform you that the updated RDF Planner Privacy Notice is now available. GDPR comes into effect 25 May 2018. The following changes have been made to the Privacy Notice:

  • Removed reference to charges for data access requests as charges for reasonable requests are no longer permitted.
  • Added data controller and data protection officer details.
  • Expanded the 'Your rights' section to include updated rights information.
  • Added link to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) as required.

GDPR aims to consolidate national regulations and ensure the efficient flow of information between businesses and public bodies across the EU while protecting the rights of EU citizens.
