5 instant campus cures to a bad day

By Natasha Kothari, Middlesex Student

In this latest lifestyle blog, Student Writer Natasha writes on how to get through any bad day

The other day I woke up and for some strange reason I just felt like the world was blue, like getting out of bed was the worst thing to do and that there was little or nothing to look forward to.

There was no particular reason for this feeling - it was “just one of those days.”

Having a bad day?

Sound familiar?

Honestly if someone gave me a penny for every time I felt low, I’d be on a cruise to the Bahamas by now not needing to work for the rest of my life!

But a wise man (Robert Schuller, to be more precise) once said, ”Tough times never last, but tough people do.”

So giddy up because I am going to give you 5 instant cures to any bad day, all of which are guaranteed to make you feel better and the best part is that they’re all here on campus!

1   Exercise

There is nothing better than sweating out all that anxiety and stress and pumping that adrenaline around our bodies. Trust me, it will make you feel fresher than ever.

Grab your mates and play a fun game of ping-pong or a friendly game of basketball or why not try the state-of-the-art Fitness Pod to get those endorphins going.

It’ll help clear your head as well as make you feel fitter and more motivated for the day ahead.Exercise is a good way to feel better

2   Grab a coffee with a friend

Never underestimate the power of a hot beverage and a good listener. Take out some time with friends - share some laughs and stories. Sometimes just having someone by your side while getting through a bad day helps a lot more than you think.Grab a coffee with a friend

3   Spread some happiness

Uni life is the most memorable time for most of us but at the same time there are a few of us who have a hard time socialising and can feel pretty lonely. If you spot someone like that, go up to them and ask if you can help with anything or just start a random conversation with someone who is sitting all alone. Turn your bad day around by doing something good for others, smiles are contagious you know…

Spreading love

4   Let the library rescue you

“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”- Jhumpa Lahiri. Pick a random book, join a character and enter an imaginary world that'll make you at least for a while, forget about what's wrong.

Read books

5   Talk to a professional

Quick fixes are not always the best solution to every problem. It’s always worth talking to someone who has a lot of experience for some valuable guidance. Middlesex offers professional counselling services to all students - available on campus at Sunny Hill House.

Talk to a professional

To end, I want to share with you my go-to inspirational quote during difficult times,

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.” - Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter.
